Common Questions about Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common forms of plastic surgery.  It focuses primarily on the nose and can be used for a variety of different reasons.  The one most people are familiar with is generally cosmetic in that it focuses on improving the way someone’s nose looks.  Rhinoplasty is, however, a very diverse field of surgery and most people have a lot of questions about it.  Here is a short list of some of the most common questions, along with a few simple answers.

Are rhinoplasty patients vain?

Rhinoplasty Before & AfterMany people think plastic surgery is only performed out of vanity.  There are a number of procedures for which this is true.  Face lifts are a popular option that generally has very little purpose other than improving the way someone looks.

Rhinoplasty, as with other types of plastic surgery, actually has some very legitimate uses.  Many plastic surgeons specialize is fixing damage from an accident or other serious incident.  Someone who has had their nose damaged in a car crash, for example, will go to a rhinoplasty surgeon to have the damage fixed.  In other cases, plastic surgery can correct a congenital functional abnormality.

Is rhinoplasty painful?

This is another common question because the pain associated with surgery will often keep people from having it done.  The truth is that the pain and discomfort associated with a rhinoplasty procedure will vary depending on the complexity of the surgery.

A small, minor procedure will result in some pain and swelling but this is often not very serious and will subside within a few days.  A more major procedure, such as changing the actual shape of the nose, can result in significant pain, swelling, and bruising.  All of this will go away within a few weeks but it is slightly more troublesome.

Is rhinoplasty expensive?

Cost is always a big concern and while you shouldn’t shop for a surgeon based on price, it is something that you need to consider.  The cost of the procedure depends on a few factors.  The first is the surgeon and the type of patients they deal with.  Someone who does solely cosmetic surgeries will generally have a more affluent base of clients and will charge a bit more.

If, however, you rhinoplasty is medically necessary or part of your recovery from some sort of trauma, it may be covered by insurance.  Depending on the type of insurance you have, the procedure can either be completely free or require a co-pay which can vary on a case by case basis.

How do I find a rhinoplasty surgeon?

Finding a rhinoplasty surgeon is not terribly hard.  Finding a truly great surgeon, on the other hand, can be a bit harder.  It can be a good idea to start by searching around on the internet.  A quick search should turn up things like AtlantaRhinoplastyCritic which is a website that deals with rhinoplasty surgeons in the Atlanta area.  Look for a site like this that covers surgeons in your area and then take the information to your doctor and see if they can recommend anyone for you.

If you are looking for a plastic surgeon consult AtlantaRhinoplastyCritic for the best ATL GA nose surgery doctors in the county.

Dental Implants Are A Safe And Sensible Choice

Villaggio Dental ImplantHere’s a startling fact: a single missing tooth can cause other teeth to move around, changing your bite, your appearance and even your digestive health. You simply don’t want that to happen. Dental implants can replace a tooth that’s missing to restore natural appearance and full function.

Whether a tooth is lost to periodontal disease, trauma or another cause, the dental implants provided by Villaggio Dental can fill the gap and provide these important benefits:

  • You get complete restoration of the feel, look and function of a natural tooth that’s so perfect no one will no the difference.
  • It isn’t necessary to grind, cap or otherwise alter adjacent teeth that are healthy as it is with bridges.
  • There’s no worry of slipping while eating or speaking — and no adhesives as there are with dentures.
  • A single implant can help improve the fit of dentures when there aren’t enough natural teeth to hold them in securely.
  • Pockets and gaps are eliminated, so there’s no place for food and debris to collect, jeopardizing your dental health.
  • They’re as east to care for as natural teeth and no special maintenance is required for years, if at all.

Getting a dental implant is a straightforward process that happens over several appointments. The actual process starts with the placement of a titanium implant in the jaw. After recovery and a soft diet for a few days, the process continues as the bone begins to grow around the implant. Then, a protruding abutment is attached and a porcelain top piece or crown is installed.

About 95 percent of patients experience total success. When you brush, floss and regularly see you dentist for oral care, dental implants can last a lifetime with little or no maintenance and no special treatment or procedures after installation.

Students Learn Medical Profession While Dressed to Impress in Scrubs

Medical ScrubsAt the annual Scrubs Camp, located at Winona State University in Minnesota, John Schmelzer is holding up a flexible orange nasal tube to show a group of high school students, clad in purple medical scrubs, how to properly insert the tube and what its function is. Not too far away, another group of students is taking a tour of a medical helicopter.

The annual camp is a health careers event held at Winona Health and features a weeklong look into the world of medical careers, where students can learn about everything from surgery to massage therapy. This year, 95 high-schoolers from the surrounding area, all dressed in their scrub uniforms, attended the camp.

Medical scrubs are a cost-effective choice for medical facilities because they are easy to wash and, if damaged or stained, easy to replace. Scrubs are made of specialized fabric that reduces the likelihood of spreading diseases and germs in the facilities, as well as providing medical staff a way to change into a more sterile uniform.

JessiekaKnazze, a senior at Cottage Grove High School, has wanted to be a doctor since she was 12, and the Scrubs Camp has offered her an accurate, hands-on experience, as well as an opportunity to hone in on what type of doctor she wants to be.

“They expose you to so many different careers in medicine,” Knazze said.

Other medical activities include physical therapy, systems improvement, and imaging — which the students learn about all while dressed in their purple medical scrubs.

But there’s more to scrubs than just the familiar blue or green colors. It isn’t hard to find cute scrubs nowadays. They can come in a wide variety of patterns, colors, and styles that allow for medical staff to have more clothing diversity in the workplace. Some university hospitals, like Winona State, even have medical uniforms to match their university’s colors. Medical professionals who routinely work with children often wear scrubs printed with animals or cartoon characters, helping them connect with their young patiente. A simple look at an online scrubs store and it will be very clear that scrubs are undergoing a huge aesthetic makeover these days.

The camp staff (who are real-time medical professionals) emphasize to the students that positions such as lab assistants can learn on the job and don’t require a specific degree. Students at Scrubs Camp enjoy testing their newfound knowledge on each other throughout the course of the week-long experience.
